This is the combined log for 09/05/31 and 09/06/06, as the former log was purely combat, the latter purely RP.

1. Our peaceful journey back to the Pearl Court after having grouped up together, is interrupted by a chase scene outside. Evidently some shifters (we are in the Shifter Enclave) are fleeing what appear to be guards. Jessica hails the guards telepathically, and they come over the window. At this point it is discovered, via mindsight, that these are illusions. We turn around to find ourselves ambushed by what we later find out to be Reth mercenaries.

2. Combat ensues. We battle 6 or 7 Reth, slaying all but two out in the open city. In the process, we are “smoked” out of the building by the Reth, so when combat concludes the building is still burning. We use baleful polymorph on two captives to make them easier to transport—placing them in a hat.

3. We see some people attempting to put out the blaze and are contented that they’ll succeed. We decide that it’s important that we return to the Pearl Court post-haste to deposit our captives and try and get abreast of the situation.

4. The party drops off the captives at the Pearl Court prison, and then go to visit Lazerous, Jessica’s master, who gives them a book on the Reth. Jessica also solicits Lazerous’ help in “checking” on the captives daily.

5. The party splits, Jessica goes off to file a police report, the others head to the library to find more information on the Reth. On the way over, Seph notices that a piece of paper falls out of the book Lazerous gave them. On it is a sketch, in Lazerous’ hand, that looks like a black ship. This little clue has not been explored further. Upon arriving at the library the party uncovers the following salient facts:

  1. Reth are cursed to slay their own bloodline descendants.
  2. Reth have been known to be mercenaries for people who have contacts on Acheron.
  3. Mindflayer incursions in the area have been increasing, with the most recent attack the previous day being the most open one. They have not been taking thralls, oddly enough. Seph infers that this may be because they are pressured by some outside force to accomplish something beyond their normal instincts. It is not revealed at this time what that may be.
  4. The question of whether the mindflayers and the Reth are related in some way is raised, but not answered.

6. Jessica simultaneous to bullet point 5, files a police report and absconds the party of any relation to the property damage resulting from the brief melee. She then heads down to the two prisoners and conducts a hasty, and poignant interrogation. The interrogation was done privately and the details may be divulged in Jessica’s Diary. The following evidence was left: A cat has gone missing, a skulking cyst had to be disposed of, one of the prisoners is now un-polymorphed and shackled with metal. Moderate necromantic auras would be found in the interrogation room.

7. Jessica reunites with the party and they decide to head back to the shifter enclave to see if they can drum up any other witnesses. Gern leads the way here and there is a discussion with a shifter sitting on a park bench. The man seems to not know much, apart from offering a description of the Tea House proprietor. Broh, goes an thoroughly inspects the Tea House remains, while Gern questions a local armor vendor. Jessica decides to split off with Seph and head to the Cannith guild house, with which the Tea House was associated. Gern finds that the armor smith had a custom order of Reth-like armor, made for a full humanoid that was never picked up. He seems unable to divulge the intended buyer. Broh finds evidence of an area that was not burned (later discovered to be where a fire-safe vault was, but is now removed). He finds some exotic urns containing extraplanar tea. Broh also finds evidence that the place had been burned after the fact, in what the party surmises is a cover up attempt.

8. Jessica reveals a little of the interrogation results to Seph, specifically that one of the prisoners was magically prevented from saying anything regarding his employers. Some brief RP ensues, which may be recorded in some detail in Jessica’s dairy, from her perspective. The pair arrives at the Cannith guild house and request to speak to the proprietor of the Tea House, who is revealed then to be Erinica, a Tiefling matching the descriptions by the shifter in the park near the Tea House. Jessica and Erinica talk briefly, before inviting her out to dinner for more discussion. The party reconvenes over dinner and conversation ensues.

9. The following is revealed in this dinner conversation:

  1. The tea was some form of Dwarven, extraplanar tea.
  2. Erinica was recruited briefly into the Blood War on Acheron, by some Aasimar.
  3. The blank spot in the Tea House burn pattern was Erinica’s fire-safe vault. She can track its location, and does so by providing a map that can update its location for 1 hour.

Summary of Events

Under the premise that Broh would like to discuss the proposed employment contract with his supervisor, Gern, Jessica and Seph tag along and meet Gern at a Tea House, near the Shifter ghetto, presumably not far from the Pearl Court. There, Jessica meets up with Gern, Broh, Zeth, and Tara. After some protracted discussion and recruitment efforts, Jessica manages to achieve the following:

  1. Gern, Broh, Zerth, and Tara have all signed the employment contract.
  2. Jessica promises to draft a contract ensuring that Zeth will be compensated for damages incurred to her ship. (See draft contract below)
  3. The newly forged part begins to head back to the Pearl Court, but are interrupted by a spot check… DUN DUN DUUUNNN!!!

Draft Contract


Jessica Ondomiel, Ayus Maji First Degree, and her companions (Seph, Zeth, Tara, Gern, and Be’Dawgh) hereafter referred to as “The Party”, enter a contract of insurance by signing this document. The document is only valid up on the receiving signatures of all constituent sentients of the Party.

The Party agrees to fully compensate the value of any damages incurred to Zeth’s ship (hereafter referred to as the “Ship” ) under the following circumstances:

  1. The damages occurred while the Party was present on the Ship or within 10 miles of the ship, while it is in port.
  2. The damages are not result of Natural Disaster, Sabotage from a 3rd party, or any other circumstance that might be considered far beyond the power of the Party to control. Such events are referred to henceforth as “Acts of the gods” and are not covered by this insurance policy.
  3. The Party is responsible for protecting from damages (or compensating damages) from overt and visible enemies.

Compensation is to be handled in the following way:

The cost of repairs or other such compensation will be determined when it happens. Repair cost estimatees will be verified by at least one independent party, selected by Zeth. The estimated cost will then be divided among all members of the Party. Funds will be collected by Jessica at minimum, one day prior to making payment for the repairs and disbursed to Zeth on the day payment is made.

Penalties:

Should any member of the Party fail to provide adequate funding, this contract ensures that Jessica will provide the remainder to the best of her ability. Should Jessica be unable to provide sufficient funds to cover the difference, this insurance policy is considered “Maximized” and the burden of the remaining repair costs falls on Zeth. Any overage costs that Jessica must cover will be considered as a loan, with 10% interest accrued monthly to the character unable to provide their share of the repair cost. Any damages beyond what this policy can maximally compensate is considered to be profit loss due to business risk and does not obligate the signees of this contract any further.

09/05/09:

Jessica is offered to arbitrate the burial of a certain Steel Dragon, who is revealed to be Sophocles’ self in a former life. The Cuteness tags along as Jessica attempts to prepare for the arbitration by researching the factions involved. We begin by asking Leroy, the man who informed us of the job in the first place. Several things are revealed here.
  1. We are contracted by some powerful dragons specifically and for reasons unknown to Leroy
  2. We were given access to several purportedly dangerous books, one of which was on Dragon Lineage. It was later revealed that this book details a connection between the blood of Vol and this particular dragon prophesy. The blood of Vol is, evidently, connected to the 13th and now taboo Dragonmark of death.
The following information is revealed from a Lung Dragon in alternate form. There are six factions, only five of which the Lung Dragon knew of:
  1. Faction One: This faction favors non-interference and desires the dragon to be buried as planned in the normal location on Syberis.
  2. Faction Two: Prefers the grave to be easily accessed and watched; they want it on planet, specifically in Thrane.
  3. Faction Three: Prefers a planetary burial on Armonessis. Presumably for more ready access.
  4. Faction Four: Prefers to destroy the body, ridding any prophesy associated with its burial.
  5. Faction Five: Bury the body in Syberis, as planned, but in the head, not the body. Reason unknown as of yet.
  6. Faction Six: Unknown/Unrevealed.
  7. Additionally it is revealed that Lung Dragons, interested in preserving the neutrality of the universe (or so they claim), are backing the results of this negotiation and providing the necessary enforcement to legitimize the decision.
  8. It’s also clear that we are permitted an arbitrary amount of time to resolve this issue, though the more speedy the better.

After some additional, book research is performed, we are met with 2 teflammar shadowlord blink dogs, on of which is disguised as a human via polymorph (presumably). Some conversation ensues, to no real end. The two parties split, with Jessica and The Cuteness heading back to Leroy’s office to return a the book on Dragon Lineage. We are met with magical darkness and a mindflayer, who is rapidly dispatched, but no Leroy. Disturbed the presence of a mindflayer we hurry towards Jessica’s master’s office, Lazerous. We are intercepted along the way by another mindflayer, who appears to be chasing the two blink dog shadowlords we met previously. A brief combat ensues and the mindflayer is dispatched. It is made evident that one of the Blinkdogs would like to join our party at this point.

Jessica hesitantly accepts, under the condition that a contract of loyalty be signed before Jessica is willing to accept further assistance, due the information sensitive nature of her mission. That contract was not declared at this point and was left for the second session. The contract that Jessica will demand is written as follows:

The signee of this document hereby acknowledges that they are helping Lady Jessica Ondomiel Maji, first degree, accomplish a task of arbitration (hereafter referred to as (the) “Arbitration”) that is of significant importance and interest to a number of powerful draconic parties. The rewards for assisting Jessica in this endeavor are substantial and are enumerated as follows:
  1. A full share of all incidental materials acquired that do not directly pertain to the Arbitration. Precise distribution of materials will be determined on a case by case basis, with final resolution coming from a majority rule.
  2. Equal access to consumable goods, including food and housing, which will be provided as long as Jessica is physically capable of doing so.
  3. Full access to any spell or ability or service which Jessica or other members in her party are capable of providing, with the exception of services that may intrude upon the confidentiality of the Arbitration.
  4. Assurance of resurrection and fastest possible healing in the event of injury or death.

Along with the benefits there are a few restrictions, pertaining to the confidentiality and legality of the Arbitration.

  1. The signee is on a strictly need to know basis regarding the particular details of Jessica’s mission. Such information is legally privileged and obtaining any such information regarding this case without receiving Jessica’s expressed permission is tantamount to obstruction of justice and subversion of Court. Such acts will be punished according the Law of the Land.
  2. In all matters pertaining to the acquisition of information, the pursuit of justice and a fair hearing, with respect to the Arbitration, Jessica is to have the final decision. Failure to comply to the fullest extent may be used as grounds for dismissal and possibly removal of materials accrued. Jessica is duty bound to inform the signee when such decisions fall under this category and her judgment on this matter is not to be questioned, as explanation may break confidentiality.
  3. Absolutely no discussion of matters related to the Arbitration is allowed outside the party. Failure to comply will be treated as contempt of court and grounds for immediate dismissal and confiscation of materials accrued while in employ of Jessica’s party.
  4. The signee is expected to respect all the Laws of the Land while in Jessica’s employ, speak truthfully, and generally remain presentable before the public. The Maji are not interested in partying with or being seen with social embarassments and unsavory individuals. Blatant and repeated violations of this rule, depending on severity, will be grounds for dismissal.

In signing this document the signee hereby declares that they have no competing interest in joining this group with respect to matters of the Arbitration. The signee agrees to all of the above terms and their associated penalties should they fail to meet them.
